Speed Racer: a cartoon show "Speed Racer premiered in the U.S. in 1967, and was exposed to a new generation of viewers on MTV in 1993. It is now airing on the Cartoon Network. The show is based on the Japanese comic book Mach Go Go. In the series, Speed's given name was Go Mifune, in homage to Japanese film star Toshiro Mifune. His name, Americanized, became Speed Racer. His adventures centered around his powerful Mach 5 car, his girlfriend Trixie, his little brother Spridle with pet monkey Chim Chim, and his mysterious older brother, Racer X - real name, Rex Racer. For American consumption, many acts of violence and death were deleted and, most importantly, the memorable theme song was added." for more info: http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/2523/index.html |
